Do I need prior training or experience to join?
No! We will provide you with everything you need to succeed as a firefighter, including training, class, equipment, and gear at no cost to you.
How much time do I have to donate as a volunteer?
As much time as you want! We recognize that volunteers have other commitments, such as family, school, or a full-time job, and are appreciative of any amount of time you are willing to dedicate to giving back to the community.
What type of training does Gordons Corner offer?
Gordons Corner is one of the only departments in the county that possesses both the equipment and trained personnel to perform highly-specialized rescue operations, including ice water rescue, rapid intervention, technical/rope rescue, and vehicle extraction.
What is the township volunteer incentive?
Manalapan Township reimburses up to $500 of municipal fees paid by the volunteer firefighter or immediate family members.
What sets Gordons Corner apart from other volunteer fire companies?
In addition to being one of the only departments in the county that provides specialized training and equipment, Gordons Corner has a stellar reputation for protecting property. So much so, that new residents moving into the township receive discounted home insurance, solely because they live in the fire company’s service area.
How much tuition credit does Gordons Corner offer?
Volunteers are eligible to receive tuition credit of up to $1,250 per year for up to four years to go towards county college, county vocational school, or county technical school. This is also available to the spouse or children of a volunteer.
Can high school students join?
Yes, high school students ages 16 and older can join the junior program and earn community service hours.
What is the health and fitness program?
The program promotes healthy living practices through educating volunteers on how to participate in regular physical activities and eat a balanced diet. Annual physical exams are conducted to further encourage good health and for prevention purposes.
What is the Firefighter Relief Program?
Through the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association, lifetime benefits are offered to volunteers who serve for 84 months or more. The program provides burial benefits, reimbursement for financial hard times, home care, and assisted living, such as nursing homes.
Do I have to fight fires to join?
No! We offer an auxiliary role for volunteers interested in assisting with fundraising and representing the fire company at community and recruitment events.
